Ok so garry's mod supports the kinect for ragrolls. You can set it up move around and it'll move the character like some janky mocap it's kinda neat and you make for a cool underutilized medium for some video project stuff. Anyway the original 360 kinect I have I could never quite get working with IR camera stuff, and when trying it with gmod it recognized that it's plugged in but doesn't display a video feed or do anything with the ragdolls. Did a decent bit of research and it looks like the general consensus is that this is just a problem with the original kinect (the only officially supported one by gmod btw) and that it seems to work fine with 32 bit windows 7. So I installed 32 bit windows 7. Was gonna try a VM but I've never got those to run at over 4fps so I drudged out our old family PC from when I was a kid and slapped windows 7 on a spare HDD lying around. It wouldn't accept the key that was stickered on the case so I activated it by other means, and got to work on installing steam so I could download gmod. Anyways steam doesn't work on anything older than windows 10 anymore. Apparently because it relies on google chrome which doesn't support those either. This includes windows 8. So next best option if I wanted the to actually run it on this hardware was to find a crack of a game I own. A game that I own that supports this hardware. That the store interface to download it doesn't support. It took like 3 different styles of crack but I eventually found one that works. I just used the official files I already had on my win10 pc as a base since I already owned them and just needed to trick it that that pc had steam. I also had to install a graphics card I had laying around bc it wouldn't launch at first but I eventually got it running. The kinect still didn't work btw. I think it's because the pc doesn't have usb 3.0 but I prolly should've checked that part first. Whatever. At least I have a copy of gmod that's running on hardware reminiscent of the computer prop in game

Sprinkling. dark. car is off. some shit i put on the playlist in highschool playing quietly over the stereo. Hanging out the window of my battered up 1999 accord i bought in highschool(comfort car) taking slow breaths through a pipe. I didn't consider myself the type to ever smoke weed casually in high school. I can't even think of what I've done for the past three years. Life is gonna pass by so quick. Will I ever be who I want to be. Does that person even exist. I need to do more. I need to live edit: watched "I Saw the TV Glow" literally right after this and holy fuck

Finally back home, school starts monday.
Notable differences include the lack of mold in not my apartment (very nice), how much more tired I feel (could be because of moving effort or just locational depression or even eating habits tbh idk it's a mystery), and I also got around to fixing that model f AT (just soldered a ps2 cable onto it and replaced all the springs with not rusty model m springs) and it works good typing with it rn

While really bored on archive.org at work and looking for venues around here I stumbled upon an old listing on murder.net for all the goth clubs in the area. Looking into all of them, it looks like one kinda far away rebranded into a dive bar, and everything else had shut down since the 90s, except one right in the heart of the city.
A l'il bit of a drive but what isn't a drive down here, so decided to go check it out last friday. Had never been to a club before but I've heard this one described as the "disneyland" of what it is, if you're interested in this kinda thing you gotta go at least once.
It's really cool inside, don't think it's changed much from the 90s besides maybe all the peeling paint on the walls getting re-graphittied every so often; bar was made of those old ice cube glass blocks and there was a few crts around playing cheesy 80s porn.
Two things I'd have to note is that it doesn't start to liven up t'il about two hours after open (for the first I was the only one in the pit!) and that the bartender guy rlly doesn't wanna chat and will just shrug you off if you have a question that isn't about buying a drink. (I guess real bars aren't like va-11 hall-a lol)
Overall rlly cool place and I'll prolly go again, maybe with some friends this time, or on a larger event night

Was on a very short mild mostalgia trip so here's two pieces of media from when I was a kid that are about an hour each
Coinbox Hero - Clicker flash game that's mildly like those interactive-buddy games where you gain coins by doing physical damage to the box. I'm not sure if there's any other clicker games that deal with physics rather than just regular mathematics. It's very simple though and all the spent shells accumulating on screen lag out the engine quick
Foster's Home for Imaginary friends - Destination Imagination - A very well made kids movie dealing with feeling unapreciated and fear of abandonment. I still remembered a lot of the scenes to this day. Craig McCracken makes such good shows. I think this was also made in flash, oddly enough

If I ever don't post for a really long time I'm either doing decently mentally well or just am very busy. or both

I didn't quite capture the same emotion of the original but I was really entranced by this old stock image. I wonder if this person is still around. I wonder what her life was like

There's a ton of abandoned golf courses and low income housing around where I'm staying. Stuff like trailer parks and small apartments just get flattened leaving the streets and such behind, which is kind of sad to see, rather than putting any funding into better housing.
The golf courses are nice though, I wish more of them would go out of business. They're so abundant that there's one right downtown that's not much more than a swamp with trails now, though physically it's much cooler to explore when the buildings are still standing

Took a bath today for the first time in like 10 years. put some ambient music playing on my kindle and just breathed and relaxed for a bit.
Earlier today got all dolled up to go to ikea and buy a shark. It's kinda nice to be able to go out wearing what I want. There's never really been a true self that I feel like, but I'm enjoying who I see in the mirror a lot more now

Riding a motorcycle is so fun. Accelerating make me feel like that one ghost rider gif. Cornering is so graceful it's like I'm a ballerina. Makes me go "Wheee!! yippie!!!" ridin around town on my bigass V-twin

This school year went by so fuckign fast it felt like only one semester. Maybe it'll feel more substantial next year when I'm taking less classes and have more free time in general.
Anyway recreated this photo last night and played poker with some friends. I don't know why I haven't been playing this instead of yahtzee all this time

While Dariabot only existed for like 4 hours the april fools bit this year was pretty good. The concept of an ai chatbot built into a coding ide is pretty funny, and they did a good job making her very condesending.
While she was still active I did manage her to make me a very nice animated elephant and some image effects, along with getting her to redesign my homepage to be a bit more to her liking. She called the red garish, that the indentation made her eyes bleed, and was generally confused with all my padding and spacing (trust me I am too.) I also find it funny that she opted to simply display some of my chance logos in a grid to get rid of all the javascript

My old desk that I had since high school had about had it. The screws have always liked to loosen themselves but a few weeks ago it had enough of the weight and I came home to it parallelogram'd. This fucked up the keyboard tray a li'l bit it was still usable, 'til about a week ago when I tried to lean on it to bend over and the tac welds on the front legs both snapped.
The secondhand stores either only had $30 desks that were worse quality than this one or $100 desks that were too big to fit. So. I made one

Wow taking 18 credits does not leave much time for anything else does it. Also my friend and I watched Jin Roh. Very brutally real. The animation was nice too

Y'all remember Nitrome? Probably some of the best flash games out there. You can still play some of their games in html5 and they still do some larger projects, but I kinda miss the Nitrome I'd come home from school to on my parents' computer. You used to be able to find l'il easter eggs in the games that'd unlock wallpapers and such for the site. Story chains in the comment box and only ever finishing a few games due to the difficulty spike. I played 40 levels worth of Nitrome Must Die on new years with a friend, way more than I was ever able to get to as a kid on my own, and hopefully we can finish it sometime soon.
Also, not Nitrome, but did anyone else play Snailiad? Probably the only metroidvanias I've completed. Even got me into making nes music with a tracker for a bit. For a while there too I was hopeful for when Snailiad 2 was gonna drop on newgrounds lol. Thorgle borgle

It's almost new years now so I thought I'd share the songs I listened to the most
Nothing I use has anything that tracks this, so here's the hundred or so songs I deemed good enough to throw on my walkman
I added and removed a few songs since this screenshot but I still think this is a pretty comprehensive summary for the year
