Love

Lesbian dogwood

Maybe life is ok sometimes. Maybe it sucks. It will be fun to experience at least and to share it with my friends

Mulholland Drive

Actress lesbian jealousy melodrama. I'm not the first one to describe Lynch movies as "dreamlike" but it locks you into a state for the whole thing. It's so sad I love the twist

Mad God

Dark wet unsettling dripping gross stop motion film. What happens to everything that's left after a society falls. Took like 30 years to make and will probably take about the same to process everything in views of my own life

Enjoy

Operation Avalanche

Some camera nerds get roped into faking the moon landing and become part of the conspiracy itself. It's also rlly well shot bc they're camera nerds irl

House (1977)

Funky old japanese horror movie about a group of friends going to spend some time at an aunt's house. The lighting and special effects give it a very charming vibe

Pink Flamingos

Team rocket attempts to become grosser than the self-proclaimed filthiest woman to exist. I'm glad this exists.

Beyond the valley of the dolls

Apparently a spoof of a bunch of various genres of the era. Kinda makes it's own sorta campy ironic unironic story with no unflawed characters. It's fun

Jennifer's body

2009 tumblr classic. Feels a lot more like modern horror movies compared to the usual stuff I watch

Duel

Lots of subtext about inadequacy and ego and fate and such. I didn't expect 90 minutes of someone being chased by a truck to be this gripping

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Some of the Diesel scenes unironically have the pacing of a nightmare. The plot is about a man and his stoner cousin running out of their "magic gold dust" and a dude that really wants to fuck a train

Inland Empire

Shot on a dvcam, basic digital effects and insane shots and pacing. Reminds me a lot of perfect blue but if I shot it in high school and it making even less sense. I think if David tried to make another movie they wouldn't let him

Kickassia

Doug invades a micronation for real. Watched this the day after the AVGN Movie. Featuring a bunch of internet reviewers. The critic is self critical and their invasion falls apart pretty fast. Actually entertaining even though I don't know any of these people. They had fun at the time and it's nice that people do make projects like this

Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes

It's a sorta cliche time loop kinda concept, but with a TV that can see through a linked TV, but two minutes in the future. Despite the simplicity I think they do sone fun and novel things with the concept

Tokyo Drift

First Fast & Furious movie I've watched as an adult. It's got goofy car stuff but they also do everything for real so it's a fun balance. Sorta generic story but it's a good one and is told thru the medium of cars instead of smth like contemporary like swords. Very 2000s tuner too.

Titan A.E.

In my opinion a very good movie to watch both for kids, or if you just like 2000s sci-fi. Really cool blend of CG and hand drawn animation, and a very of-it's-time rock soundtrack

Lolita

Underage girl gets a little too flirty with an a fling with an older man, and the guy becomes obsessed with her when she wants to move on. Kinda descent into madness, but about taboo infatuation. Swank

We're All Going to the World's Fair

tbh I need to look into this one a little bit more, but it's a film about an online horror challange, and dangerous online interactions brought out from it

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

You know about this movie. I wish there was more stuff made that blended 2d and 3d, they pushed a lot of technology with this movie and it kinda ended here besides like cool world

The AVGN Movie

Art? Encapsulates nerd culture. Unsure of how self aware it is but it did predict James selling out. Spoiler alert but it's like 1/3 a mecha-kaiju as well

The Dirties

Matt in The Dirties the exact kinda character as in Operation Avalanche and Nirvana the Band the Show but instead of trying to get into the rivoli or faking the moon landing they're planning a school shooting. Meant to portray the naive mentality of some kids

Playtime

If The Holy Mountain is showing the evils in human systems, this is showing them with a smiley face :) The hustle and bustle never stops. Playtime for your eyes. and there were a couple comedic moments that really got me good

Bad Taste

Made by the same person that directed all the Lord of the Rings movies. It's a Rambo-style movie about some aliens that have come to earth to collect humans as food for their galactic fast food chain

Indifferent

No Country for Old Men

Modernization of the western conflict. What happens when a cowboy-style character when a modern bountry-hunter doesn't play by the same old rules. Someone that is utterly determined. Methodical

Metropolis

One of the central themes is about flaunting around shows of wealth in projects to disguise corruption and bad intentions. But itself is a massive paumpous display of animation power. Like there's some things of note here but I can't be alone about this part

Mechanical Violator Hakaider

Found while looking at the wikipedia article for the yamaha Vmax. Lots of bike shots. Unique designs and the stop motion parts are pretty cool. Pretty basic antiauthoritarianism story but with an antihero protag

Videodrome

There's more modern stuff that does what this is trying to do better, but I still think it's a very interesting movie of it's time, especially with all the effects. Technology and reality. Your TV

Blackberry

Very good filmmaking from Matt as usual, but it does exaggerate everything quite a bit, and the main characters aren't rlly true to life. But as someone that was very young when Blackberry was kinda big, it was neat to learn a bit about the technological trends at play

Party 7

The title sequence is animated by the same person that made Aeon Flux, and directed by someone that worked on the screenplay for Redline. I like the concept of gradually more people meeting in a hotel room, ensuing hijinx, but a lot of the jokes are kinda boring

Meh

Dragonball Evolution

I know nothing about dragonball but I'm treating everything in this as canon. It's extremely generic but the very-2010 cg effects were nice for the soul to see. It's also funny to see everyone call this guy Goku

Wicked City

Studio Madhouse. The animation is beautiful but the plot is of a cheezy 80s cop B movie. Because this is a cheezy 80s cop B movie. Someone I know described this as "penis monsters" I don't remember any of the plot

The Fifth Element

A little cheezy but also incredibly stylized? Any interesting character was written to make the manly-man main man appear more manly. He's kinda boring. The main enemy is a ball of evil. The opera part is the best scene and everyone knows it

Wild Wild West

It's unique ig. But everything kinda just falls flat and feels like a "will smith does stuff" movie. 1/3 of the jokes are "man in dress". Unfortunately a giant mechanical spider doesn't save a sucky everything else
